new video clip - unique logistical position
The onion harvest in the Netherlands amounted to 1,5 million (metric) tons in the last season (yield figures 2017). Around 95% of this is intended for export. The impressive export number of more than 1,1 million (metric) tons being shipped to over 130 different countries proofs that our Holland Onion is truly a major globetrotter. Our quality onion is sold in every corner of the world. For only the Netherlands has the capacity and the means to deliver crisp and fresh onions all year long.
Sustainable trade relations
The Dutch onion is a triumph of cultivation methods that are constantly being improved and of a smooth-running logistical organisation. Genetically transmitted Dutch traits that came about at the start of the Golden Age, but are still applied in practice today. Important traits, cherished even now by the Holland Onion Association in 2018. Creating long-term strategies, establishing sustainable trade relations and constantly building up mutual trust has the joint attention of the Dutch onion chain on a daily basis.
World class transport and logistics
The processes of cultivation, storage, processing, sorting and packing are sublime and optimally designed. Processing and packaging plants are often within a stone's throw of the harbours or we use inland vessels to ship the onions to the international mainports. Our Holland Onion always starts its journey by making grateful use of the efficiency of yet another sector where the Netherlands is and has been a world-leader for over centuries: transport and logistics.
Optimal infrastructure
Besides the geographically favourable position at the coast of Western Europe, The Netherlands has created an optimal infrastructure throughout the centuries with efficient waterways and hinterland connections. And all within a small distance of the (sea)ports of Rotterdam, Antwerpen, Lelystad and the North Sea Port in Vlissingen. Because of this the Dutch onion chain is capable of serving any market, anywhere in the world in no time at all.
